DOG CARE SPECIALIST

Position: Dog Care Specialist 

Full-Time-Part Time:   Either

Supervisor: Director of Dog Care & Kennel Operations 

Supervises: None

Status: Non-Exempt 

Location: 1895 W. Prince Road, Tucson, AZ 85705

JOB SUMMARY

This position serves a critical role in providing dog care to ensure all of our dogs are safe, happy and loved.  This position is responsible for providing dog care services, outdoor exercise activities, clean kennels and maintain outdoor play/turn out.  This position will also interact with the public and customers, so providing friendly service to our customers while checking dogs in and out of the Lodge. This position will also provide other support to the entire kennel operations as assigned by the Director of Dog Care & Kennel Operations.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily supervision and care for lodging, training and daycare.
  • Provide scheduled turn out breaks.
  • Provide timely feedings and administration of medications.
  • Provide kennel, training and outdoor area cleaning.
  • Monitor health and behaviors of all dogs and immediately communicate issues or concerns to proper staff.  
  • Keep timely and accurate kennel records and data on feeding, medication, behavior and other concerns.  
  • Maintain and implement all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform various duties and other duties, as assigned.

  • Ability to follow directions, work independently and effectively with little direction and use good judgment when making decisions.
  • Ability to use effectively kennel records tracking software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Work Flexible hours and schedules.
  • Ability to balance, bend, stand, walk, kneel, twist, stretch, climb and sit.
  • Ability to stand or be on your feet for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to push and pull up a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate environmental conditions, such as hot, cold, wetness, dust, noise, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One to three years working with dogs of all types and behaviors in a similar type environment. Prefer experienced dog handler who has worked with behavior dogs with rehabilitation and daily care.
  • Must love dogs and be comfortable handling them and able to anticipate their needs.
  • Minimum of a High School degree or GED.  
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and up.
