Shelley Harris
Director of Community Outreach & Marketing
I’m Shelley Harris, Director of Community Outreach & Marketing at Sol Dog Lodge. My work is all about building connections — between people, partners, and pups — through stories and collaborations that make a difference. With a background in marketing and community engagement, I’m passionate about sharing the heart of Sol Dog’s mission and the positive impact we have together.
My journey to Sol Dog began long before my first day on the job. I grew up surrounded by animals — Great Danes, a poodle named Babette, and a few feral cats — so my love for them has always been part of who I am. As an adult, frequent moves made it difficult to have pets of my own, so I poured my affection into my father’s guide dogs, Gonzo and Whitman. Watching their training and seeing the trust they shared with my dad through Guide Dogs for the Blind taught me a lifelong respect for the bond between people and dogs.
Throughout my career in marketing — particularly in hospitality and senior living — I always believed that pets make every community better. From a three-legged cat in Washington, DC, to George the black lab in Bethesda, and finally Mr. Fry, a Saluki-mix from Arizona Greyhound Rescue who joined my team in Tucson, each animal left a lasting impression. That connection inspired me to serve on AGR’s Board of Directors and deepen my involvement in rescue, training, and community outreach.
At Sol Dog Lodge, I’m grateful to combine my professional experience with my love for dogs. Every day, I get to help build partnerships, expand awareness, and share the stories that celebrate how Sol Dog brings people and pets together. When I’m not at the Lodge, I enjoy time with my Borzoi, who keeps life joyful and full of adventure.
